Senate President Godswill Akpabio has condemned the alleged killing of a Nigerian surgeon in South Africa, reportedly lynched by a mechanic who falsely believed the doctor was competing for his job.
Addressing lawmakers during plenary, Akpabio said the graphic nature of the incident made it impossible to overlook, revealing he had already taken personal action. He called for a coordinated response between Nigeria’s National Assembly and South Africa’s Parliament.
“Either they applaud their citizens or they condemn them. People who come to do legitimate business, even tourists to South Africa, are being killed as if they are going to work,” he said.
Akpabio urged colleagues to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete steps to protect Nigerians abroad.
