Datti blasts Obi’s exit from LP, questions 2027 alliance

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has criticised Peter Obi for leaving the party amid its internal crisis, describing the move as lacking strong leadership qualities. Speaking after defecting to the Peoples Redemption Party, he said Obi should have stayed to resolve disputes within the Labour Party.

Baba-Ahmed also expressed doubts about a potential alliance between Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, arguing that northern voters are unlikely to support such a ticket. He noted that the partnership idea had been his suggestion but questioned its viability ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said, “it is very unlikely that the north will rally around Obi and Kwankwaso… A leader must be firm… If you’re not ready to fight, don’t even come out.”
