17 ADC Lawmakers defect to NDC in House of Reps

VIA THE CABLE:

Seventeen ADC members of the House of Representatives have defected to the NDC, deepening the party’s losses following Peter Obi and Kwankwaso’s earlier departure.

Seventeen members of the House of Representatives have formally defected from the African Democratic Congress to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, in the latest wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu read the defection notices during Tuesday’s plenary. The defecting lawmakers represent 17 constituencies spanning Kano, Anambra, Lagos, Edo, and Rivers states.

The lawmakers cited leadership and legal crises in their former party as reasons for the move. Additionally, Leke Abejide, representing Yagba federal constituency in Kogi, moved from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress.

The defections follow Sunday’s high-profile exits of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the ADC to the NDC, with both politicians subsequently urging their supporters to join the new platform
