The Supreme Court is expected to deliver judgments today in cases that could significantly affect the fortunes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development comes after a Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising recent congresses conducted by the David Mark-led National Executive Committee of the ADC.
Political observers say the rulings may determine leadership control and candidate preparations within both parties.
David Mark Assures ADC Members of 2027 Ballot Presence
National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, David Mark, has assured members that the party will participate fully in all elections in 2027 despite ongoing legal battles.
Mark gave the assurance on Wednesday night after receiving a briefing from the party’s legal team on the latest Federal High Court judgment in Abuja.
He urged members to remain calm and united, expressing confidence that the party would overcome the challenges.
Tinubu Appoints Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Foreign Affairs Minister
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.
Tuggar reportedly stepped down to participate in the 2027 elections. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu previously served as Minister of State in the same ministry.
Her appointment is expected to ensure continuity in Nigeria’s foreign policy direction.
IGP Orders Disciplinary Action Over Effurun Fatal Shooting
Inspector-General of Police, Rilwan Olutunji Disu, has ordered immediate disciplinary action against officers involved in the fatal shooting of Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State.
Disu made the announcement during a press briefing at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, describing the incident as unacceptable.
He said those implicated would face internal sanctions and prosecution where necessary.
Petrol Prices Near ₦1,400 Per Litre Amid Global Oil Tensions
Pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) are approaching ₦1,400 per litre in many parts of Nigeria following rising global oil prices.
The increase is linked to failure by the United States and Iran to agree on a ceasefire that could reopen the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the United Arab Emirates’ exit from OPEC.
Marketers say supply concerns and crude oil volatility are driving the surge.
Police Foil Bandit Attack in Katsina Communities
The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a bandit attack on communities in Dandume Local Government Area and arrested one suspected bandit.
Police said the incident occurred late Tuesday when armed attackers invaded Unguwar Bido and Unguwar Kanawa villages. Two injured residents were also rescued.
Authorities said operations are ongoing to apprehend fleeing suspects.
SDP Fixes May 9 Convention Despite Leadership Dispute
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has fixed May 9 for its national convention in Bauchi State despite an ongoing leadership crisis.
Embattled National Chairman Prof. Sadiq Gombe announced the date during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
The party also scheduled nationwide congresses, defying concerns raised by INEC over internal disputes.
Adeleke Accuses APC of Plot to Disrupt Osun Governorship Poll
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has accused elements within the All Progressives Congress of plotting to disrupt the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke alleged that some APC members were seeking to undermine the democratic process out of fear of defeat.
The APC has yet to officially respond to the allegations.

Naira Appreciates to ₦1,379 at Official Market
The naira appreciated on Wednesday at the official foreign exchange market, trading at ₦1,379.46 against the US dollar.
According to figures published by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the currency gained ₦1.24 compared to the previous trading session.
Analysts said improved liquidity may have supported the modest recovery.
Tinubu Declares Intention to Seek Second Term
President Bola Tinubu has openly declared that he will contest for a second term in office in 2027.
Speaking while receiving Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and other stakeholders, Tinubu said insecurity would not force him out of office, adding, “I’m a very stubborn politician… I will campaign for my second term.”
He maintained that his administration would continue confronting security challenges nationwide.

The Supreme Court has scheduled judgment for today in the leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress.
A five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba fixed the date after parties adopted final written addresses.
The David Mark faction is challenging an earlier Court of Appeal ruling ordering parties to maintain the status quo.
Police Dismiss ASP Usman Over Effurun Killing
Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu has announced the dismissal of ASP Nuhu Usman and other officers linked to the killing of Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State.
Disu said the officers would also face prosecution after investigations found violations of Force Order 247 governing firearm use.
He described the killing as criminal and unprofessional conduct.
Tinubu Backs Hamzat for Lagos Governorship Race
President Bola Tinubu has endorsed the decision of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council to adopt Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
