EFCC investigated Pastor Jerry Eze for six months over suspected money laundering but found him innocent:  Olukoyede

The EFCC says Pastor Jerry Eze was investigated for six months over suspected money laundering but was cleared after findings showed no wrongdoing.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has revealed that it investigated Jerry Eze for six months over suspected money laundering but found no evidence of wrongdoing. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede said the probe was triggered by intelligence reports and petitions concerning large inflows of foreign currencies into the pastor’s domiciliary account.

Speaking at the Jerry Eze Foundation Business Grant Award Ceremony in Abuja, Olukoyede explained that the commission traced inflows from several countries, including the United States, Colombia, Sri Lanka and Togo. After reviewing financial records and inviting the cleric for questioning, investigators concluded that the funds were legitimate and linked to his ministry’s activities and humanitarian efforts.

The EFCC boss said Pastor Eze was invited not to defend himself but to be commended after the investigation cleared him. He also urged religious institutions across Nigeria to uphold integrity and ensure that places of worship are not used as cover for illicit financial activities.
