Fresh allegations have linked former Ekiti governor Kayode Fayemi to a multibillion-naira resort project in Ogun State, with claims that funds tied to the Ekiti airport project were diverted to finance the development.
Fresh allegations have surfaced connecting former Kayode Fayemi to the development of a multibillion-naira hospitality and conference complex in Ilishan-Remo, raising renewed questions over the financing of public infrastructure projects under his administration. According to sources familiar with ongoing inquiries, investigators have linked financing associated with the Ekiti State Airport project, initiated during Fayemi’s tenure and commissioned in 2023, to the development of the Amandla Resort and Conference Centre, a high-end facility located along a growing corridor near Ogun State’s airport.
The allegations centre on claims that portions of funds allocated to the airport project, which has yet to commence full commercial operations, were redirected to support the resort’s construction. Critics have long questioned the airport project’s cost, pace of delivery and utility, with some describing it as underutilised despite significant public investment. One source alleged, “Funds allocated to the Ekiti airport project, widely criticised as a white-elephant venture, were diverted to finance the construction of the Amandla Resort and Conference Centre, located along a newly developed airport corridor in Ogun State, near the hometown of Governor Dapo Abiodun.”
The latest claims add to scrutiny surrounding Fayemi, who has previously faced questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over separate allegations of money laundering. In June 2023, the former governor was questioned by the commission in Ilorin over an alleged N4 billion laundering case, though no direct connection has been established between that matter and the latest allegations regarding the airport and resort projects.
