The Obidient Movement has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating a “sinister scheme” to block Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential bid by manipulating INEC to delist the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The Obidient Movement has officially accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating a calculated scheme to block Peter Obi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), from participating in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking to journalists, National Coordinator Yunusa Tanko alleged that the recent delisting of the ADC leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is part of a broader “underhanded plan” that began shortly after the 2023 polls. Tanko claimed the ruling party has consistently worked to destabilize Obi’s political foundations, stating, “This underhanded plan has been in motion since the 2023 election, deliberately injecting crises into Obi’s former party, the Labour Party, to prevent him from securing a foothold
Tanko further asserted that previous attempts by Obi to maintain a stable political base were systematically undermined by state actors. He claimed that “Despite Obi’s relentless efforts to restore peace, government infiltrators aided by a compromised judiciary consistently thwarted these attempts.” The coordinator argued that once Obi aligned with the ADC, the APC escalated its tactics through legislative maneuvers, including amendments to the Electoral Act aimed at pressuring the party. According to Tanko, “After aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and bringing renewed energy to the party, the ruling party escalated its sabotage, pursuing legislative changes that led to a damaging amendment to the Electoral Act, explicitly designed to pressure the ADC and undermine Obi’s presidential ambitions.”
The movement suggested that the recent political alliance between Obi and former Kano Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso served as the ultimate catalyst for the government’s latest actions. Tanko noted that “Obi’s visit on March 22, 2026, to former Kano Governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, where he was warmly received by Kwankwasiyya members, only intensified the ruling party’s hostility.” Following a massive rally in Kano on March 30, 2026, where Kwankwaso officially joined the ADC, Tanko alleged that the government forced a reinterpretation of a court ruling to cripple the party’s leadership. He concluded that, “In a desperate move, the government manipulated INEC to reinterpret an Appeal Court ruling, leading to the delisting of the ADC’s leadership.”
