Two trainee health workers in Enugu were suspended by their college after a viral video exposed poor conditions at Uwani Health Centre, while the state government denied involvement in the disciplinary action.
Two health assistant trainees, Makuochukwu Eze and Joy Ezeugwu, have been suspended indefinitely after a viral video showed them lamenting the poor condition of Uwani Health Centre. In the clip recorded during night duty, the trainees said the facility lacked basic amenities such as water and electricity.
“We’re on duty, and it’s night duty, and I can’t believe that in a hospital like this, there’s no water, there’s no light (power supply), everywhere is littered. There’s no cleaner,” Ms Ezeugwu said. Ms Eze added, “There’s a woman currently in labour, and there’s no light. There’s no oxygen either.” The trainees later said they were suspended after the video gained attention online.
Management of Ezzy Healthcare Training College described the suspension as an internal disciplinary action. Meanwhile, Malachy Agbo said the Enugu State Government was not involved, stating the matter was an internal issue within the private institution.
