A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kano on Wednesday granted bail to Suleiman Yakubu, a driver attached to the wife of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, over an alleged jewellery theft valued at N60 million. Yakubu, alongside Idris Uba-Musa and Abdullahi Hassan, is facing charges of conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property.
Prosecutor Abubakar Ibrahim told the court that Yakubu, who works for the emir’s first wife, Sadiya Ado-Bayero, allegedly trespassed into her room on March 16 and stole jewellery, N500,000 cash and a Samsung phone. Yakubu pleaded guilty, while the other two defendants pleaded not guilty. Chief Magistrate Hadiza Abdurahman granted each defendant N10 million bail with two sureties and adjourned the case to April 13.
