Tinubu ministers, appointees resign to contest 2027 elections

Several ministers and political appointees resigned from President Tinubu’s administration to pursue elective offices ahead of the 2027 elections.

Some cabinet members and political appointees in the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu have resigned their positions ahead of the 2027 elections. The resignations follow the president’s directive that any appointee with political ambitions must step down on or before March 31, 2026, in line with electoral regulations.

Those who have resigned include:

  • Yusuf Tuggar
  • Yusuf Sununu
  • Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna
  • Abdulrazak Namdas

According to reports, Tuggar resigned to contest the Bauchi governorship, while Sununu is seeking a senatorial seat in Kebbi. Gawuna stepped down as Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria board, while Namdas resigned from the Niger Delta Development Commission board to pursue an elective position in the 2027 elections.
