Elizade University’s Vice-Chancellor, Philip Oguntunde, has urged parents to delay sending children abroad for studies, warning it can lead to value loss and weakened family connections.
The Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University, Philip Oguntunde, has cautioned parents against sending their children abroad for studies at an early age, warning of potential long-term consequences. He gave the advice during a Town-and-Gown engagement with secondary school administrators in Ondo State.
Oguntunde described the decision as one that often leads to regret, citing personal experience of rejecting foreign education offers for his children in favour of completing their first degrees in Nigeria. According to him, early exposure to foreign cultures can result in value erosion, weakened family ties, and emotional disconnect between parents and children.
He advised that students should first obtain their undergraduate education locally before pursuing studies abroad at a more mature stage. The university registrar, Omololu Adegbenro, also reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, noting that all programmes are fully accredited and globally competitive.
