Germany has rejected Femi Fani-Kayode’s ambassadorial nomination over concerns about his past controversial statements and conduct.
The government of Germany has rejected the nomination of Femi Fani-Kayode as Nigeria’s ambassador, citing concerns over his past controversial statements and conduct. The rejection followed his appointment by President Bola Tinubu earlier in March for a diplomatic posting to a Central European country.
According to reports, German authorities declined the nomination due to what they described as “erratic behaviour” and divisive remarks linked to ethnic, religious, and political issues. The decision reportedly came days after Fani-Kayode was involved in a public altercation with the United Kingdom’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, during a Ramadan event in Abuja.
Sources within the administration indicated that the former minister may be reassigned to another country, with South Africa being considered. Fani-Kayode, known for his outspoken views and past controversies, has yet to officially respond to the development.
