Terrorists outgunning our soldiers, Ndume tells Tinubu

Senator Ali Ndume says Nigerian troops fighting Boko Haram lack adequate weapons and equipment, urging President Bola Tinubu to increase support and military resources to end the insurgency.

Ali Ndume, senator representing Borno South, has warned that insurgents linked to Boko Haram are outgunning Nigerian troops due to inadequate equipment and ammunition. He cited the recent attack on soldiers in Ngoshe, where troops were forced into a tactical withdrawal before regrouping to reclaim the town.

Ndume said the military’s challenges stem from shortages of key equipment such as MRAPs, gun trucks and sufficient ammunition, stressing that soldiers remain “gallant” but cannot confront heavily armed insurgents with inferior weapons. He urged Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts to properly equip and motivate troops deployed in conflict zones.

The senator also highlighted the humanitarian impact in communities around Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad Basin, where residents have been displaced and villages destroyed. He said rebuilding communities, boosting troop welfare and increasing air support, including attack helicopters, would strengthen efforts to defeat insurgents.
