Prominent Nigerian politicians visited Nasir El-Rufai in Abuja to offer condolences following his mother’s death, amid ongoing controversy over his temporary release from ICPC custody.
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Saturday received top political figures at his Abuja residence following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who died in Cairo after a brief illness. The condolence visits drew prominent leaders and associates from across the country.
Among those who paid visits were Rotimi Amaechi, Atiku Abubakar, Aminu Tambuwal, and Abubakar Malami, reflecting a broad political presence. The visits came shortly after El-Rufai’s temporary release from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai, who has been in custody over alleged financial misconduct, was granted release on compassionate grounds to attend his mother’s burial. Speaking during the visit, Amaechi described the charges against him as politically motivated, adding further dimension to the ongoing controversy surrounding his case.
