Kogi Poly lecturer collapses, dies while teaching

The Kogi State Polytechnic community is in mourning following the sudden death of Anslem Ojodomo, a senior lecturer and Deputy Dean of Students’ Services, who reportedly collapsed and died while delivering a lecture to students.

The staff and students of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, have been thrown into profound mourning following the sudden death of Anslem Ojodomo, a prominent lecturer in the Department of Public Administration. According to eyewitness accounts, the tragic incident occurred on Friday, March 27, 2026, when Ojodomo reportedly collapsed while addressing students during a scheduled lecture. Despite being rushed immediately to a nearby hospital by students and colleagues, he was tragically confirmed dead upon arrival. The Rector of the institution, Prof. Salihu Avidime, confirmed the development in a statement signed by the Acting Coordinator of the Directorate of Public Relations, John Onimisi, describing the loss as a massive shock to the entire academic community.

In his tribute, Prof. Avidime expressed deep personal sorrow, noting that he had met and exchanged pleasantries with the late lecturer only hours before the incident, at which time Ojodomo appeared to be in good spirits. The Rector lauded the deceased as a dedicated professional who served the institution with humility and a strong commitment to academic excellence. “The Polytechnic community is mourning the loss of a promising academic and dependable colleague, who embodied scholarship, service, and character,” the rector said, adding that Ojodomo’s contributions as the Deputy Dean of Students’ Services and a lecturer had left a lasting impact on both his peers and the student body.

This latest tragedy marks a somber period for the institution, coming barely a month after the death of another academic, Dr. Barnabas Akuba, who passed away shortly after completing his PhD program. The recurring loss of faculty members has sparked concerns among the campus community regarding the welfare and health of academic staff. As the Department of Public Administration struggles to process the sudden exit of one of its most “promising academics,” burial arrangements are expected to be announced following consultations with the bereaved family.
