Police in Oyo State have launched an investigation after a man identifying himself as Shawarma claimed in a viral video to have killed 32 people in Ibadan and expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
A self-confessed hired assassin identified as Shawarma has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a viral video circulating online, the man claimed responsibility for multiple killings in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, saying, “When they wanted to misbehave in Ibadan, I killed 32.”
Shawarma also alleged that security operatives had previously freed and praised him for the killings. “Even the police and soldiers freed me and told me I tried. President Tinubu will win the 2027 election,” he said.
The video surfaced days after Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo warned opposition figures against campaigning in the South-West ahead of the 2027 polls.
The Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State said it had no record of Shawarma being arrested but confirmed that an investigation had begun. Police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka said, “As a responsible and responsive agency, the command has launched a thorough investigation into the allegations and the confessional statements contained in the video.”
Authorities urged the public to provide information that could lead to the suspect’s identification and arrest.
