FIFA fines Nigeria, DR Congo over crowd misconduct in World Cup play-off final

Four months after DR Congo defeated Nigeria 4–3 on penalties in Morocco to advance to the intercontinental play-offs, FIFA has sanctioned both federations for disciplinary infractions during the November 16, 2025 fixture. Nigeria were fined 1,000 Swiss francs for spectators throwing objects, breaching Articles 17 and 17.2.b of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, while DR Congo received a heavier 5,000 Swiss francs penalty after supporters used laser pointers, violating Article 17.2.d.
