Nigeria’s Defence Minister is holding a security meeting with service chiefs in Abuja amid rising insurgent attacks and the recent killing of three army commanding officers in Borno State.
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, is currently holding a meeting with the country’s service chiefs at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja. The high-level meeting comes amid growing concerns over the rising level of insecurity across the country.
Sources said the meeting is focused on recent attacks on military formations in Nigeria’s North-East, where insurgents have targeted several bases in recent days. The development follows reports that three commanding officers of the Nigerian Army, all of the rank of lieutenant-colonel, were recently killed by terrorists in Borno State.
Those attending the meeting include the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Sunday Aneke; and Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abass. Security agencies, including the National Intelligence Agency, are also represented at the meeting.
