Police in Oyo State have arrested a 43-year-old man for allegedly killing his elder brother with a rock after accusing him of shooting him in a dream.
A 43-year-old man, Lateef Suleiman, has been arrested in Sepeteri, Oyo State, for allegedly beating his elder brother, Mustapha Amidu, to death with a heavy rock over claims that the deceased shot him in a dream. Suleiman, of Alegunlode Compound, reportedly woke up convinced that his 52-year-old brother had attacked him in his sleep. The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Oyo State Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
According to the police statement, “One Badmus Yunisa ‘m’ of Alegunlode Compound, Sepeteri, reported that Lateef Suleiman ‘m’, aged 43 years, attacked his elder brother, Mustapha Amidu ‘m’, aged 52 years, following an accusation that the deceased had shot him in a dream while he was asleep the previous night. Acting on this claim, the suspect allegedly approached the deceased where he was seated, picked up a heavy rock, struck him on the head, and fled the scene immediately.”
The victim was rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital in Sepeteri but was “confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty,” the statement added. Police operatives from the Ago-Amodu Divisional Headquarters were said to have swiftly visited both the scene of the incident and the hospital as investigations commenced.
