UCH Ibadan has suspended new patient admissions as health workers begin a warning strike, protesting restricted power supply that they say has crippled hospital operations.
The University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, has stopped admitting new patients as health workers commenced a five-day warning strike over restricted power supply within the facility. The strike, declared at 8:00 a.m. on Monday under the Council of UCH Union Leaders, involves the Association of Resident Doctors, the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, and the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals.
Union leaders alleged that internal electricity rationing by management has crippled service delivery, disrupted surgeries and laboratory operations, and endangered patients and staff. They cited water shortages, failed cold-chain systems, and security risks, demanding full transmission of power supplied by IBEDC, restoration of water services, and urgent government intervention, warning that the action could escalate into an indefinite strike if unresolved.
