Nigerian travellers stranded as US, Israel-Iran conflict grounds flights

Nigerian travellers have been stranded by widespread flight cancellations after escalating US-Israel-Iran hostilities forced Middle Eastern airspace closures, prompting government advisories and warnings of rising oil prices.

Nigerian air travellers have been stranded following flight cancellations triggered by escalating hostilities between the United States, Israel and Iran. Airlines including Qatar Airways, Emirates and Air India suspended services after several Middle Eastern countries shut their airspaces. Affected passengers described the development as “really painful,” while Qatar Airways said, “The safety of our passengers and employees is always our highest priority.”

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria warned that restrictions were disrupting international operations and advised passengers to contact airlines for updates. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Nigerians in Iran and neighbouring Gulf states to avoid sensitive locations, stating, “Avoid areas known to be strategic, military, or government installations.” Former envoys cautioned that the crisis could raise global oil prices and deepen instability.
