You’re a rumour monger, hatchet man- Onanuga fumes
Mike Arnold, a former US mayor, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu is seriously ill and claimed that unelected actors are effectively running Nigeria, sparking fresh political controversy.
A viral commentary circulating online has made sweeping allegations about the health of President Bola Tinubu, claiming he is “seriously ill” and receiving medical treatment in France. The author, Mike Arnold, on X, asserted,“Confidential sources say Nigeria’s president is seriously ill — not overworked, not jet-lagged, sick. It’s said advanced cancer — at least stage three, and that’s from older intel. The Paris trips aren’t diplomatic. They’re medical.” The presidency has not issued any statement confirming the claims, which remain unverified.
The commentary further alleged that First Lady Oluremi Tinubu is exerting unusual influence within the administration. It claimed, “Remi Tinubu didn’t come to Aso Rock to smile and cut ribbons… Because in her mind, she does.” The piece also targeted National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, referring to him as “NSJ Bugsy, the National Security Joke,” and alleging that he controls state intelligence for political purposes.
In addition, the author accused former presidential aide Reno Omokri of political opportunism, writing, “Then Tinubu offered him an ambassadorship — and overnight, genocide became a ‘hoax.’ He didn’t change his mind. He sold it. The Shambassador.” The commentary further claimed that Ribadu and Omokri were planning a 2031 presidential ticket and alleged misuse of public funds tied to a Washington lobbying contract, though no documentary evidence was provided.
The piece also raised concerns about constitutional succession, noting that Vice President Kashim Shettima would assume office if the president is unable to complete his term. Drawing historical comparisons to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and former President Goodluck Jonathan, the author warned of potential instability. As of press time, none of the individuals named in the commentary had publicly responded to the allegations.
Meanwhile, responding to Arnold’s post, the Spokesman of the President, Bayo Onanuga, has dismissed the allegations against his principal. He described Arnold as a rumour monger and hatchet man, calling his post irresponsible and baseless.
