Nigeria ranked 62nd out of 64 countries in the 2025 AI Adoption Index, with infrastructure and access gaps cited as key barriers despite rapid year-on-year growth.
Nigeria has ranked 62nd out of 64 countries in the 2025 AI Adoption Index, placing it among the three lowest-performing nations globally, according to a study by Cybernews. The report gave Nigeria a 7 per cent performance rate the same score as Poland and Venezuela despite recording the fastest year-on-year growth in the dataset, rising from 1 per cent in 2024 to 7 per cent in 2025. The study assessed AI adoption across 64 countries using population data and downloads of the top 100 AI apps on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
Researchers attributed Nigeria’s low ranking to structural challenges, including limited electricity access, internet availability, device affordability and weak digital infrastructure. The report noted that only about 60 per cent of Nigerians have access to electricity, restricting consistent AI usage. In contrast, adoption rates surged in countries such as Singapore, Chile and India, which recorded significant growth in AI downloads and penetration over the same period.
