The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former All Progressives Congress National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun reportedly escaped a gunmen attack in Benin City, Edo State, on Tuesday. The incident allegedly occurred at Odigie-Oyegun’s residence shortly after a political event in the state capital.
According to accounts and a video circulating online, the attackers were said to have followed the group from the African Democratic Congress secretariat to the residence, where they opened fire at the estate gate and damaged several official vehicles. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, said armed individuals shot at the gate and vehicles, while Obi confirmed the attack happened shortly after leaving the party’s headquarters.
