Muyiwa Adekeye has alleged that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai suffered a nosebleed while in EFCC custody and was denied a meal from his wife before being transferred to ICPC custody.
Muyiwa Adekeye, media aide to Nasir el-Rufai, has said the former governor suffered an overnight nosebleed while in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. In a statement issued on Monday night, Adekeye also alleged that the commission prevented el-Rufai from receiving a meal directly from his wife on February 17.
El-Rufai had voluntarily presented himself at the EFCC headquarters on February 16 following an invitation from the anti-graft agency. Details of the investigation were not immediately disclosed, but his appearance sparked widespread public interest given his profile as a former governor of Kaduna State.
On February 18, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission took el-Rufai into custody after he was released by the EFCC. Authorities have yet to provide further clarification on the circumstances surrounding his detention or the nature of the allegations under review.
