Firefighters in Oyo State saved an elderly woman from a residential blaze in Ibadan that destroyed significant property but was prevented from spreading to a nearby clinic.
Operatives of the Oyo State Fire Service rescued a 65-year-old woman Friday evening from a fire that gutted a residential building in Ibadan’s Elekuro area. The blaze originated in the boys’ quarters of an ancient six-room structure, spreading rapidly and threatening neighboring homes. Firefighters successfully contained the inferno, preventing it from reaching a nearby primary healthcare center.
“Our personnel responded promptly and swung into action on arrival. They were able to contain and restrict the fire,” stated Mr. Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Fire Service. While the victim is receiving treatment for severe smoke inhalation, the fire destroyed millions of naira in property. Investigations are ongoing to determine the official cause of the outbreak.
