Who is Sadiku? The terror leader linked to Kwara Massacre

Investigations identified terrorist commander Sadiku as mastermind of the Woro massacre in Kwara State, as survivors recount the attack and authorities admit security challenges while launching relief efforts.

Investigations by Saturday PUNCH have identified Abubakar Saidu, popularly known as Sadiku, as the alleged mastermind of Tuesday’s massacre in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, which left about 176 residents dead.

Security analysts described him as the “Shekau of the North-Central,” tracing his rise from a lieutenant of former Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau to a key insurgent figure operating from the Kainji Forest Reserve. Experts warned that expanding jihadist fronts and porous security structures enabled the attack despite prior warnings.

Survivors said the attackers stormed the community on motorcycles around 5pm, burning homes and executing residents in a coordinated assault that lasted until 2am.

“They were heavily armed with sophisticated weapons, including AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns and explosive devices,” said ZulQharnain Shero Musa.

Intelligence officers blamed planted explosives and overstretched forces for delayed response. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has constituted a seven-member committee for relief efforts, while over 50 injured survivors are receiving treatment in Ilorin hospitals.
