Lagos–Ibadan expressway to face six-week partial shutdown for bridge repairs

The Federal Government has announced a six-week partial closure of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway to repair failing bridge expansion joints and improve safety.

The Federal Government has announced a six-week partial closure of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway to carry out urgent repairs on expansion joints at Kara, Magboro and Arepo–Punch bridges. The Federal Ministry of Works said the decision followed safety concerns and public complaints over traffic congestion on the Lagos-bound section of Kara Bridge.

Ogun State Federal Controller of Works, Michael Komolafe, apologised to motorists and assured improved traffic management, while contractor Andy Duan said work would begin Monday and last six weeks. “At Kara Bridge, we have finished half of it,” Duan said, adding that safety measures would be installed as repairs progress.
