Christian group says 166 abductees freed after Kurmin Wali attack

CAN says all 166 worshippers kidnapped in Kaduna’s Kurmin Wali have been released, though government confirmation remains pending.

All 166 people abducted during attacks on Kurmin Wali village and churches in Kaduna State last month have been released, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said. Reverend John Hayab, CAN’s northern chairman, confirmed the return of all worshippers, without disclosing whether ransom was paid.

Kaduna CAN leader Reverend Caleb Maaji also confirmed the release, saying, “The stage is set for them to be brought … His Excellency will meet with them. This is a result of ‌the prayers we have offered.” Nigerian government officials had yet to publicly confirm the development.
