INEC has cautioned that delays in amending the Electoral Act may disrupt parts of the 2027 election timetable, while reaffirming its readiness to conduct credible polls.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has warned that delays in amending the Electoral Act could affect aspects of the timetable for the 2027 general elections. INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, raised the concern on Wednesday in Abuja, noting that although the commission had concluded its timetable, changes to the law could require adjustments.
“While we have made our submissions to the National Assembly, the passage of the amendment may have implications for certain items in our timetable,” Amupitan said, urging lawmakers to fast-track the process. He added that INEC remains prepared for the polls and plans a nationwide voter revalidation exercise ahead of 2027.
