The Senate has voted to retain INEC’s discretion on transmitting election results, rejecting a proposal for mandatory real-time electronic uploads.
The Senate has rejected a proposed amendment to Clause 60(3) of the Electoral Amendment Bill that sought to mandate electronic transmission of election results by INEC officials from polling units to the IREV portal in real time.
Instead, lawmakers retained the existing provision that states “the presiding officer shall transfer the results, including the total number of accredited voters and the results of the ballot, in a manner as prescribed by the Commission.” More details are expected.
