Aisha Muhammed says her father’s assassination was linked to his anti-corruption stance, simple lifestyle and lack of heavy security.
Aisha Muhammed, daughter of former Head of State Gen. Murtala Ramat Muhammed, says her father was assassinated because of his modest lifestyle and uncompromising leadership. Speaking on ARISE News, she said he believed in accountability and responsibility, adding, “He believed in accountability. He believed in responsibility.”
She said his rejection of heavy security made him vulnerable. “That was why it was actually easy to assassinate him… He was in traffic like everybody else,” she said. Muhammed, who ruled for about 200 days after the 1975 coup, was killed during a failed coup on February 13, 1976.
