Ex-Governor Timipre Sylva faces possible trial in absentia as the EFCC, Interpol and other agencies pursue him over alleged fraud and links to a foiled coup plot.
Former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, has remained outside Nigeria months after his Abuja residence was raided over investigations linked to an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu. Declared wanted by the EFCC for an alleged $14.8m fraud, Sylva may be arraigned in absentia as security agencies intensify efforts to apprehend him.
The Defence Headquarters has since confirmed a plot to topple the Tinubu administration, while the EFCC said investigations were ongoing and trial without Sylva’s physical presence was legally possible. Sylva’s aides deny wrongdoing, insisting he is abroad for medical reasons and will honour invitations on return.
