Coup plotters knew consequences of their action, but their families will be cared for — Defense Minister, Musa

Nigeria’s Defence Minister says arrested coup plotters understood the risks, will be fairly tried, and have their families supported by government.

Defence Minister, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd), said officers arrested over the foiled coup “knew the consequences” of their actions and are prepared to face punishment. Speaking on TRT World, a Turkish broadcaster,  assured that the accused would receive a fair trial and access to legal counsel.

“The perpetrators already know the repercussion of their action, and I’m sure they are ready to face the wrath.”

Musa added that government would care for their families, saying, “The government is ensuring that their families are treated fairly.”

“But even at that, the government is ensuring that their families are treated fairly….Their family members are not left alone. The government is making sure that their wives and children are looked after…”

DAILY POST recalls that 16 officers were arrested in October 2025, while the DHQ confirmed on January 26 a plot to oust President Bola Tinubu.
