Governor Yusuf affirmed that Emir Sanusi’s position is secure despite political realignment, urging all parties to respect the law and avoid politicising the emirate.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has dismissed speculation that his defection to the APC could lead to the removal of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, insisting the emir’s position remains secure. “Emir Sanusi has been duly appointed in accordance with the repeal law, and this defection to the APC will not in any way change the status quo,” said Yusuf’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature.
The longstanding Kano emirate dispute, which saw two emirs claim the throne, remains unresolved legally, with a Supreme Court decision pending. Residents expressed mixed reactions, warning that politicising the emirate could destabilise the state. Experts urged consultation and consensus, emphasizing that the traditional institution should remain above party politics and respect the law.
