Nobody knows tomorrow — but I’m still in LP

Abia State Governor Alex Otti says he remains a member of the Labour Party despite internal leadership disputes and ongoing defections to the ruling APC.

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has said he remains a member of the Labour Party (LP), the platform on which he won the 2023 governorship election, amid mass defections by opposition governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Otti made the declaration on Thursday during his monthly media interaction, noting that while he is still in the LP, “nobody knows tomorrow.”

The governor spoke while responding to questions on the leadership crisis rocking the Labour Party, particularly the tenure of the party’s national chairman, Julius Abure. “We are on the right side. We have maintained that Abure’s tenure has expired, and we went to court, which affirmed that,” Otti said.

According to him, the court judgment was clear on the matter and should be respected by all parties. “So, the court judgement confirmed that his tenure has expired and advised people to obey court decisions to save the courts from unnecessary troubles. We are not in an election period. If an election comes, we will still run under the Labour Party, but nobody knows tomorrow. But today, I am still in the Labour Party,” he added.
