ADC faces backlash as nominees deny consent for committee listing

Yemi Adamolekun and Prof. Remi Sonaiya have disowned their inclusion in ADC’s manifesto committee, sparking questions over the party’s consent and vetting process.

Civil society leader and former EiE executive director, Yemi Adamolekun, has rejected her purported inclusion in the African Democratic Congress’ Wise Men and Women Policy and Manifesto Committee, questioning why her name was announced without consent. “Please show me evidence of when I joined your party!!” she wrote on X, describing the move as damaging to credibility.

Former KOWA Party presidential candidate, Prof. Remi Sonaiya, also said she was surprised by her inclusion.

Responding, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said committee membership was not limited to party members and included technocrats. “Many are not even politicians,” he said, adding that nominees were notified and consent obtained. Adamolekun rejected the explanation, saying, “No, I’m not interested in serving on a Committee where a simple vetting process is complicated & no one is taking responsibility for the error.”
