Undergraduates may sit UTME but must state status — JAMB

JAMB says undergraduates can take the 2026 UTME but must disclose their matriculation status or risk forfeiting all admissions.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board says undergraduates may register for the 2026 UTME and Direct Entry, but must declare their matriculation status or risk losing both admissions. Public Communication Adviser Fabian Benjamin said the directive was misrepresented by “self-styled education advocates,” causing confusion.

Benjamin said, “It is not an offence for a candidate to register for the UTME/DE while still enrolled in an institution. However, failure to disclose such a status constitutes an offence,” adding that disclosure prevents multiple admissions and helps curb malpractice, with JAMB systems able to detect violations.
