DSS operative shoots Abuja residents, two dead, one injured

A DSS operative allegedly shot three Abuja residents, leaving two dead and one injured, as police say the suspect has gone into hiding amid ongoing investigations.

A Department of State Services (DSS) operative has reportedly opened fire on residents of Karmajiji (Karon Majigi) village in Abuja, killing two people and injuring another.

The incident occurred on January 19, 2026, according to police and community sources.
The operative, identified as Ajayi Abayomi, is said to have gone into hiding and has reportedly refused to honour a police invitation to assist investigations. He allegedly claimed the shooting was accidental, stating he unintentionally pulled the trigger of his pistol.

One victim, Musa Adamu, died hours after the shooting, while Mallam Suleiman Salisu died on January 28 at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja. A third victim, Abdullahi Ahmed, remains hospitalised and is reportedly battling for his life.

“The three men were going about their lawful business when he shot them. The bullet first hit Musa Adamu, who is now dead. The same bullet sliced through the stomach wall of Mallam Suleiman Salisu and finally ended its journey in the left hand of Abdullahi Ahmed,” a police source said. A relative added, “Innalillahi wa’inna’illahi raji’un… We are praying to Allah to grant us our rights.”
