Police have arrested six suspects and recovered hundreds of devices over an alleged N7.7bn telecom hacking scheme involving diverted airtime and data.
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested six suspects for allegedly hacking a telecommunications company and diverting airtime and mobile data worth N7.7 billion. Force spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said the suspects unlawfully accessed the firm’s core systems, with recoveries including two mini plazas, over 400 laptops, 1,000 phones, and a Toyota vehicle.
“The syndicate was responsible for the illegal diversion of a telecommunications company’s airtime and data resources,” Hundeyin said, adding that investigations showed compromised staff login credentials. He noted coordinated arrests in Kano, Katsina and the FCT, and said the suspects would be charged after investigations.
