Reno Omokri says statements he previously withdrew about President Tinubu cannot be used by Omoyele Sowore in his ongoing cybercrime trial.
Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has responded to issues raised during the trial of activist Omoyele Sowore, saying Sowore cannot rely on statements he had earlier withdrawn. The remarks followed questions in court over why Omokri was cleared by the DSS despite past comments against President Bola Tinubu.
“I do freely admit that I did make uncomplimentary remarks… while believing those comments to be true at the time,” Omokri said, adding that he later discovered they were false and withdrew them publicly. “Therefore, Mr Sowore cannot rely on statements I made between 2022 and 2023… as a defence for statements he made in August 2025.”
