Tinubu gets report on alleged coup by 16 officers

The military has submitted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the report of its investigation into what it described as “indiscipline and breach of service regulations” by 16 detained officers previously alleged to have been involved in a coup plot, Daily Trust has learned. Sources within the security community and the Presidency confirmed that the report, compiled after over two months of interrogation and investigations by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), has been formally handed over to the president.

The detained officers, whose ranks range from Captain to Brigadier-General, were arrested last October amid media reports, including a Sahara Reporters publication, linking them to an alleged attempt to overthrow the Tinubu government. Both the Defence Headquarters and the Presidency denied any coup attempt at the time, though the cancellation of the October 1 Independence Day Parade had sparked speculation. A source familiar with the investigation told Daily Trust that a decision by President Tinubu on the report “will allow further actions” regarding the officers.
