Suspected bandits have ambushed a police patrol team in Oyo State, killing a serving inspector of the Nigeria Police Force during an attack at the Budo Masalasi border post. DAILY POST learnt that the incident occurred at about 1:30 pm on Saturday when the patrol team was waylaid, leaving one officer dead from injuries sustained in the attack, while other victims suffered varying degrees of injury.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the commissioner of police has ordered a full investigation and that operatives are on the trail of the suspects. He said, “Yes, there was an attack on police operatives during which an inspector, while courageously repelling the attack, paid the supreme price in the line of duty,” urging residents to remain calm and vigilant and to report suspicious movements or individuals with gunshot injuries to the nearest police station or security agency.
