President Bola Tinubu has approved the posting of three ambassador-designates, correcting an earlier announcement that had listed a fourth nominee for Turkey. The initial memo, issued to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had announced four postings from the 68 nominees confirmed by the Senate in December. The list included Ambassador Ayodele Oke to France, Colonel Lateef Are to the United States, Ambassador Amin Dalhatu as high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom, and former Kebbi State governor, Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, as ambassador-designate to Turkey.
However, the Presidency later issued a “Note to Editors” explaining that the Turkey posting was included in error and remains under review. A revised statement subsequently confirmed only three appointments, naming Oke to France, Are to the United States, and Dalhatu to the United Kingdom. In the corrected memo, President Tinubu directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to formally notify the governments of the three countries in line with established diplomatic procedures, adding that no ambassador has yet been approved or announced for Turkey.
