‘Barking Dogs’ — Ogun gov hammers critics over bad roads

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has dismissed critics of his administration, particularly over the condition of roads in the state, describing them as “barking dogs.” The governor made the remark on Tuesday during the commissioning of the 3.5-kilometre Laderin–Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station Road in Abeokuta, amid sustained criticism on social media over poor road infrastructure in several parts of Ogun, especially communities bordering Lagos State.

Abiodun said his administration would not be distracted by attacks on social media, insisting that his response would be continued delivery of projects. The comments came days after a pastor, Kayode Olawoye, who had gained online attention for highlighting the poor state of roads in the state, was released from detention by the Department of State Services alongside two associates following public outcry. Amnesty International Nigeria had earlier condemned Olawoye’s detention, describing it as unlawful and a violation of human rights.
