The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the decision of Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to reject the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and join the APC as a major blow to his father’s political credibility. Lagos APC Spokesman, Seye Oladejo, made this known on Thursday in a statement titled, “You Can’t Trust Atiku More Than His Son,” describing the younger Atiku’s defection as a “political earthquake” and accusing the former vice president of abandoning his son’s trust by siding with what Oladejo called the “pretentious ADC contraption.”
Oladejo argued that the move was a “singular act” speaking louder than press conferences, questioning how Nigerians could trust Atiku’s political convictions when even his son has repudiated them. He further accused Atiku Abubakar of decades of ideological inconsistency, describing his career as “a restless odyssey defined by serial defections, transactional alliances, and an obsession with the Presidency.” Highlighting Atiku’s moves from the PDP to the AC, back to the PDP, and now to the ADC, Oladejo said his politics amounted to “a nomadic ambition in search of a party willing to mortgage its soul.”
