₦10.4bn SUVs Gift for Chiefs: Delta civil servants need 172 years to buy one

Civil servants in Delta State would need an estimated 172 years of combined earnings to afford one of the Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) recently gifted to traditional rulers by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, according to a report by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ). The governor on Wednesday announced the presentation of 65 SUVs to traditional rulers across the state, comprising 60 units of the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and five Toyota Land Cruiser models.

Oborevwori said the gesture aligns with his administration’s “More Agenda,” particularly its second pillar, “Opportunities for All.” He explained that the vehicles were provided to help traditional rulers carry out their duties with greater ease, noting that many of them operate in rural and rugged terrains. “Today, in line with the second pillar of the More Agenda, which is Opportunities for All, I presented 60 2025 model Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUVs and five Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs to our revered traditional rulers at Government House, Asaba,” the governor said.
