Afrobeats star David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has lost a $50,000 bet after Nigeria’s Super Eagles were eliminated by Morocco in the semifinal of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Wednesday. The encounter ended goalless after regulation time before the Atlas Lions triumphed 4–2 on penalties to bring Nigeria’s campaign to an end. Hours before the match, Davido had shared a screenshot of his betting slip on social media, showing he staked $50,000 on Nigeria to beat Morocco, a wager that ultimately failed after the Super Eagles fell at the penalty shootout stage.
Similarly, Nigerian TikToker Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, popularly known as Peller, also confirmed losing a $3,000 bet placed on Nigeria to defeat Morocco within 90 minutes. Reacting during a livestream on Wednesday night, he said sarcastically, “Thank you Super Eagles for playing very well. I have lost my $3,000 bet. You guys were playing well in the previous games before I decided to place a bet and watch your match. Maybe, if I stop watching your games, you will start playing well again,” he lamented.
