Surgery Horror: Kano doctors suspended after leaving scissors inside patient

The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has confirmed that the death of Aishatu Umar, a mother of five, resulted from medical negligence at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in Kano. According to a statement by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman, a preliminary investigation ordered by Executive Secretary Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda found that surgical scissors were inadvertently left inside the patient’s body following a procedure.

The Board announced the immediate suspension of three medical personnel directly involved in the case and referred the matter to the Kano State Medical Ethics Committee for further investigation and appropriate disciplinary action. In the statement, the Board expressed its deepest condolences to Umar’s family and assured the public that negligence in medical practice would not be tolerated.
