Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was on Monday arraigned before the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, over a nine-count criminal charge bordering on assault, theft, causing bodily harm and resisting arrest.
The charges were confirmed by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, who said the case followed a viral video showing the singer in police custody and a complaint reportedly filed by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.
According to the prosecution, Portable allegedly attacked Ashabi, several police officers and other individuals at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area on New Year’s Day, with other alleged victims listed as Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi and Ebuka Odah.
The police further accused the singer of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million, belonging to Ileyemi Damilola and linked to car dealer Wally Dex Auto, as well as assaulting a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was performing her official duties.
During the proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses, although Ashabi herself was absent from court.
The presiding judge declined to grant bail, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer, and ordered that Portable be remanded in custody, with the bail hearing adjourned to January 19, while the Ogun State Police Command said it had ordered an investigation into a separate viral video allegedly showing the singer being assaulted while in custody.
